Alex Toft's Incredible Hat-Trick Headlines a Fantastic Weekend!

Another busy weekend of cricket saw Gidea Park & Romford CC in action across our senior and junior sections, with four victories from eight fixtures and plenty of standout individual performances.

1st XI – Back to Winning Ways
The 1st XI produced an excellent all-round display to secure a 59-run victory over Hadleigh & Thundersley CC. After being asked to bat, Gidea Park posted 227 all out, led by a superb 64 from Jamal Francis and 45 from Umar Tahir, with useful contributions throughout the innings.
The bowlers then combined brilliantly to dismiss the hosts for 168, with Louie Collins (3 wickets), Jamal Francis (3 wickets) and Ben Little (2 wickets) leading the attack to seal an impressive away win.

2nd XI – Narrow Win in Thriller
The 2nd XI held their nerve to secure a dramatic 3-run victory over Harlow CC in one of the matches of the weekend. Batting first, Gidea Park posted 242 all out, built around an excellent 59 from Mohammed Shamil, with valuable contributions from Thomas Stone (37) and Dev Dharmendra (33). Harlow looked well placed in their chase before Alex Toft produced a spell that will be talked about for years to come. The skipper claimed an incredible hat-trick and finished with four wickets in the same over, ending with outstanding figures of 7 wickets as Harlow were bowled out for 239. His remarkable spell turned the game on its head and sealed a thrilling victory for Gidea Park.

3rd XI – Agonising Defeat
The 3rd XI came heartbreakingly close against Frenford CC. Strong batting performances from Muhammad Azam (57), Frank Winney (52) and Daific Nadarajan (28) lifted Gidea Park to 248/8. Despite taking regular wickets through David Croker (3 wickets) and Ikbal Hossain (2 wickets), Frenford chased the target with just three wickets remaining to hand Gidea Park a narrow defeat.

4th XI – Dominant Display
The 4th XI produced one of the performances of the weekend with a convincing victory over Barking CC. An excellent batting effort saw Gidea Park reach 284/7, highlighted by Jonathon Ashlin's unbeaten 69, alongside valuable knocks from Simeon Barker (35), Freddie Rawlings (33) and Shahmeer Azam (30). The bowlers completed the job in style, dismissing Barking for 150, with Paul Rawlings taking 4 wickets in a comprehensive victory.

5th XI – Comfortable Victory
The 5th XI made light work of Frenford CC. Excellent bowling restricted the visitors to 168, with Jack Rand, Yash Chohan and Albert Winney each claiming three wickets. In reply, Riley Brooks stole the show with a magnificent unbeaten 108, guiding Gidea Park to 172/1 and a convincing 9-wicket victory.

Under 11 – Defeat at Billericay
The Under 11s battled hard away at Billericay Dragons but came up just short in the pairs format. There were encouraging performances with the ball, particularly from Joseph Fretwell, who picked up 2 wickets, while several players contributed useful runs during the chase.

Under 15 – Tough Friendly
The Under 15s were defeated by Writtle CC despite a determined effort. Harrison Sutton-Evans retired unbeaten on 30, while Alex Parker-Brown, William Mollison and Charles Poch all picked up wickets as the side continued to gain valuable experience.

Under 16 – Learning Experience
The Under 16s suffered defeat against Hornchurch CC. Jack Rand top-scored with 29, while Shahmeer Azam and Frank Winney each claimed two wickets during Hornchurch's successful chase.

A weekend full of commitment, outstanding individual performances and plenty of positives across the club. Congratulations to all players, captains, coaches, scorers and volunteers for another fantastic weekend representing Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club. Bring on next weekend!
